cPanel organizes all the files in your account into folders. File Manager Use (File Manager) interface to manage and edit files.
note:
- Whenever you access a folder containing a Git™ repository, we strongly recommend that you do not update any files or directories. Changes are made Git version control interface ( cPanel > > Home > > Files > > Git™ Version Control ) or not, it can cause serious problems for your repository.
- If a toolbar action is not available, the icon is grayed out.
- Certain File Manager tasks can be used with only one file at a time. Select the files you want before attempting any of these operations.
- Any attempt to rename, edit or view multiple files at the same time will only affect the first file contained in the folder.
Change settings
To change the folder in which the File Manager (File Manager) interface opens, follow these steps:
1. Settings Click (Settings) . The Preferences Settings (Preferences) interface will appear.
2. Select a folder to open by default.
- Home Directory (Home Directory) — The main folder for your account.
- Web Root (public_html or www) — The most direct path to the file.
- public FTP root (public_ftp) —Folder for FTP files.
- Document Root (Document Root for): — Folder for the domain selected in the menu.
3. To show hidden files in the interface, click Hidden Files Show (Show Hidden Files) (dotfiles) select .
4. If you do not want to be prompted about character encoding select Disable Character Encoding Verification dialog box .
5. Click Save .

When you edit a file with the Edit or HTML Editor actions, an interface appears that checks the character encoding of the file. Choose the correct character encoding for your file by selecting the menu. Then click Edit to continue.
- For more information about choosing the correct character coding, click Toggle Help (Toggle Help) .
- Click Disable Encoding Check to turn off encoding checking.
caution :
If you choose the wrong initial encoding, your files may become corrupted. If a file displays a series of special characters, it stops working immediately and selects the correct coding. not save the file
Working with files and folders
The File Manager (File Manager) interface allows you to perform many operations on files and folders.
Create or copy files or folders
To create a new file or folder, follow these steps:
1. From the toolbar, click + File (File) or + Folder Click (Folder) . A new interface will appear.
2. New File Name (New File Name:) or New Folder Name (New Folder Name): Enter a name for the new item in the text box.
note:
To change the name of a folder or file, click its name. Then enter a new name in the text box. Press Return ( Return ) to save your changes.

4. Create a new file (Create New File) or New Create
To copy one or more files, follow these steps:
1. Select the files you want to copy.
note:
You cannot create copies of items within the same folder.
2. Click Copy on the toolbar at the top of the interface. The Copy interface will appear.
note:
You can right-click on it and select Copy (Copy) from the menu.
3. In the copy interface, enter the path where you want to copy this file (Enter the file path that you want to copy this file to): In the text box, enter the file path where you want to save the item.
4. Click File Copy ( Copy File) to copy the file.
Move files or folders
To move one or more files, follow these steps:
1. Select the files you want to move.
2. Click Move (Move) on the toolbar at the top of the interface. The Go interface will appear.
3. Enter path where want to move this file (Enter the file In the path that you want to move this file to:) text box, enter the file path where you want to move the file.
4. File Move Click (Move File) to move the file.
You can also move files like this:
- Drag the file icon to the new destination folder.
- Click the file, then click Rename ( Rename in the toolbar .
Update file or folder permissions
To modify the permissions of a file or folder, follow these steps:
1. Select the file or folder whose permissions you want to change.
2. On the toolbar, click Permissions . The Change Permissions interface will appear.
3. Use the checkbox or text box to change the item's permissions. The default value for this setting is 0644.
4. Click Permissions Change (Change Permissions) to save your changes.
Delete or restore files and folders
note:
- Even if you delete a file or folder, the system does not delete the file permanently. Instead, the system moves the files to the Recycle Bin ( Trash ) folder.
- Click Recycle Bin Empty (Empty Trash) to permanently delete the contents of the Recycle Bin folder.
To delete a file or folder, follow these steps:
1. Select the file or folder you want to delete.
2. On the toolbar, click Delete . The Recycle Bin interface will appear.
3. Click OK to confirm deletion of the file or folder.
To restore files or folders, follow these steps:
1. Click View Trash ( View Trash on the toolbar.
2. Select the files or folders you want to restore.
3. On the toolbar Restore .
4. Confirm that you want to restore the items.
Working with other items
note:
Compress and Extract (Compress and Extract) operations require that a zip exists on the server. It only works with .zip format. The hosting provider must use WHM's EasyApache 4 interface ( WHM > > Home > > Software > > EasyApache 4 ) to use this Install the PHP extension (extension ).

Search for items
You can use the Search text box in the upper-right corner of the interface to search for a specific file. By default, Search box searches all files in your home folder. You can limit your search to the document root of /home/user/public_html. Where user represents your cPanel username. You can also limit your search to folders in the interface.
To retrieve files, follow these steps:
1. Use the Search menu to select the folder to search. You can choose from the following options:
- all files
- public_html only
- Current directory
2. Enter the desired file name in the text box.
3. Click Go (Go) .
The new interface displays file names that match your search.
-To go to a folder or to a folder containing a file, double-click the desired item in the list.
- If the file containing the search criteria does not exist, the message No records found appears.
